It's all about YOU!

The first City Life CLUB, Woodruff #1, that meets weekly on Fridays, is about to end for the academic year. May 19th will be the last, regular CLUB meeting of the Spring semester. Some of the teens will be taking jobs; others will be going to summer camps; still others, will have more time on their hands to catch up on sleep and social life and a “to do” list from parents.

This has been a good semester; the first CLUB for City Life Peoria. Twelve to fourteen teens have met weekly since March 10th. Who are these kids? What are they like? In this group there are approximately six men and eight women, ages 13-17. Several have outstanding grades; most plan to attend college. Most have some musical background, playing violin, clarinet, flute and/or singing. Some are athletic and the group includes those on the freshman and varsity football and basketball teams, as well as those on the cheerleading squad; two made the varsity cheerleading squad for next year and one had the highest number of points in tryouts.

Jeanine Kennel has faithfully served as volunteer for this CLUB. She has done well. But… she needs HELP and she needs a break during the summer months.

During the summer there be some social activities. Wanna’ party? Or picnic? Or take a trip to Chicago? .

Beginning in September CLUB will resume. It will meet on Tuesdays 7-8:30. There will be post-game parties on Fridays after the varsity football games.

If you can help out this summer or during the school year call or email us:

Changes

CHANGES … life is full of them, and the new City Life Club, Woodruff #1 (until you decide on a better name) is no exception.  So, here are the changes:

  1. City Life Camp 2006 will NOT happen.  Although we thought it was do-able this year, there is just not enough TIME to make it happen.  We will be talking about other Camp options at Club.
  2. City Life Club will be meeting on FRIDAYS (not Wednesdays) 7-10 PM beginning Friday, March 10th.  This change was made in response to requests by YOU.
  3. City Life Club will meet in the building right across the street (Abingdon) from Woodruff High.  There will be a sign out in front.

Don’t forget to call Jeanine (309) 231-7433 or Tom (309) 688-6685 (ext. 19) if you need transportation.  Lookin’ forward to seeing all of you at the Woodruff Area at City Life Club on Fridays.

What's Ahead?

Jeanine Kennel, Volunteer Team Leader for Woodruff's first City Life Club, just sent out the following letter to all who have attended the post game parties. Thought you should know what's happenin' in the neighborhood.

Hey Guys:

Gosh, it feels like it has been so long since I sent a letter to you all. Last Friday we didn’t have a “Friday night thing” because of so many adults being out of town. I really missed you guys. But I did get to see some of you at one of the most exciting b-ball games of the year. Woodruff definitely has a wild bunch of fans. It was a blast!!!

Anyway, I wanted you all to know of some things we have coming up on the calendar the next couple of weeks….

¨ Monday March 6th there is no school, so we are going bowling at the Christian Center at 2pm. We will start picking up, whoever needs a ride, around 1:30. Must call if you intend to go and if you need a ride. There are also pool tables and a snack bar there as well.

¨ We will have our first “City Life” group on Wednesday March 8th from 7-8:30 p.m. We will have a total blast being together - playing some outrageous games, eating good food, and learning about Jesus. Please call to let me know you’re interested in coming and if you need a ride.

¨ April 1st, we are taking a road trip to visit a Hip-hop church downtown Chicago. We are planning to hang out a little in the city and eat some amazing Chicago PIZZAAAAAA!!!!! It will be very late by the time we get back to Peoria. We will get permission slips in the mail in a couple of weeks. Please watch for them.

¨ July 16th, we are heading to the Mountains Baby! Youth for Christ wants to take about 30 some kids to Jackson Hole Wyoming for camp. This camp is sure to change your life in how you see God and how you see the people in your life. You don’t want to miss this experience. By the way, I have been out to Jackson Hole 3 times for vacation. It remains the most beautiful place that I’ve been in the U.S. More information will be made available to you as we approach camp time.

Just for Girls. Sorry guys. I want to get a group of girls together on a weekly basis just to discuss the “stuff” of life. This will be a very informal time when we can talk about the daily pressures of school, friends, and of coarse, the guys in our life. We will constantly be looking at Gods heart for us and apply HIS truth to our lives. Truth # 1 - No one knows us and loves us like our Creator.

You are welcome to call me anytime with questions about the stuff in this letter or other things. You can reach me at 231-7433.

Love y’all

Jeanine

Party on, Woodruff!

January 27th. Woodruff vs. Pekin; a home game for Woodruff. The game was a devastating loss. Hey, it's not all about the score. Woodruff had more fans attending. That's got to count for something, right? So the night was not all about loss.

Over at 1212 E. Willcox street, at Jeanine's house, Youth for Christ's City Life had it's first Post Game Party, celebrating each other. Fifteen teens from the Woodruff neighborhoods, two City Life staff, three volunteers and...who were those two little boys with the blankie? That was no loss. Great people, great food (Did we really eat eight, large pizzas? That was definitely no loss!) and enjoying life.

Post Game Parties will happen every Friday after the game throughout the month of February at Jeanine's house. Wanna come? Call one of us by Thursday night for transportation (Jeanine: 231-7433; Tom: 688-6685, ext. 19; or Dottie: 688-6685, ext. 20.) Or, if you have your own wheels, just show up after 9:30pm.

We will have dinner each night (Popeye's chicken on Feb. 3rd) and will take you home to your house around 11:30 pm. Tell your parents to call us if they have any questions.

See you on Fridays.

Welcome

The brokenness and alienation that teens experience as a result of our fallen nature is often heightened in densely populated areas, and often with fewer internal resources. Woodruff City Life is a brand new youth ministry, launched in the Fall of 2005, to bring the light of Jesus Christ into the lives of young people.

While all Youth for Christ ministries share the same purpose, they meet and interact with students in different ways.  City Life strives to meet students in their neighborhood, by meeting tangible needs and without judgment.
